Our History Ten years ago, I was a Mother of a toddler with a second baby on the way. Wanting to be home with my children, I tried to come up with a way of working from home. This was the beginning of Out on a Limb Creations. Before I got married, I was given some roses by my boyfriend (now husband) and wanted to preserve them. Not wanting to do the typical "dried roses on a wreath" idea, I thought of arranging them in a shadow box. I was given many compliments on that shadow box, and was told I should try selling them. I gave it a try, but did not achieve the level of success I had hoped for. Not knowing how to properly promote my product, I put the idea on the shelf. This thought came back to me a few years later, and being a new Mom, I came up with an idea to display a child's name and birth information. After some trial and error, I came up with something that I hoped would catch people's attention as an ideal keepsake for a baby. I took part in many craft shows, creating several different types of shadow boxes and memory boxes, but the baby shadow box was by far the most popular. Evolving... After several years of craft shows, I realized that it was time to focus my energies on this baby gift. I decided to stop doing the craft shows, but was still very busy with a small web-site and "word of mouth" type advertising. After taking some time off in 2006, I have re-launched Out on a Limb Creations with a fresh new look and new ideas. Craftsmanship... My husband had been making the shadow boxes for me, but as the demand grew, it became clear that he would not be able to keep up and still work at his own career. I naturally looked to my brother, a skilled craftsman living on Denman Island off the coast of Vancouver Island. He took on the challenge, and has produced a frame that cannot be found or matched in quality anywhere. Each frame is milled and assembled to perfection, with the assistance of my Father. Truly a family endeavor. The quality and attention to detail does not end there. The wire lettering is made by hand, the birth information hand lettered. Each order is assembled carefully, ensuring that it is perfectly put together, and will last for years to come. Full Circle... Today, I have more orders than I can produce on my own. I saw an opportunity to give other Mothers the same chance to be at home with their children. I have several Mothers working with me now, using their talents to help create these original keepsakes. They are able to work at home, and most importantly to them, to be at home with their children. Tomorrow... Looking towards the future, the Team at Out on a Limb Creations embraces the growth and success of the company. Of course, we would not be successful without the support of you, the customer, and we thank you for your past patronage, and look forward to doing work for you in the future. Thank you for helping me to make an idea a reality and success.
Sincerely,
Shelly Welch President Out on a Limb Creations
